Two Day National Educational Seminar BS.2081

Jun 5, 2024

On June 7 and 8, 2024,a two-dayNational Educational Seminar BS.2081 was held at Kathmandu School of Law. Thetheme of the seminar was "Enhancing Practical Skills and Clinical LegalEducation." As invitation, Bhim Bahadur Fadera from the Central Campus,Department of Law, Far Western University, along with two students, and 7studentsfrom Far Western University, Kailali Multiple Campus, were presented with theirpapers. Dean of Law faculty Prof. Dr. Mukund Ballabh Kalauni also participatedin the program as well, and he delivered a speech there. In his address, heemphasized that English language paper in exams should not be mandatory;instead, the exam question papers should be available in both English andNepali languages. The reason for this demand is that generally, even teachersteach in Nepali, and students, having studied up to Plus Two in Nepali medium, find the technical terms in English difficult. This language issue is one ofthe reasons why many students fail.

He has been advocating that the mediumof instruction for the Bachelor of Humanities and Social Sciences at FarWestern University should also be in both English and Nepali languages. It ishoped that university wil move forward in this direction in the coming days. Itis beneficial to provide exam question papers in both languages. Havingknowledge of not only the English language but also other languages is good. However, this should not be made compulsory. In the law faculty, it isappropriate to have questions and answers in Nepali for subjects like civil andcriminal cases. For certain subjects like International Law or InternationalConflict, English can be used as the English medium because some matters mightbe related to international issues or the International Court, which requiresEnglish.

Theaforementioned program at Kathmandu School of Law had the participation of manyuniversities from Nepal. In the coming days, we will also consider organizing atwo- or three-day seminar at Far Western University in collaboration with theFar Western Government, Nepal Bar Association, the Uttarakhand Government, anduniversities located in Uttarakhand. This will help in showcasing students'talents, exchanging knowledge between universities, and exploring possibilitiesfor cooperation in various other areas.
